La duodécima temporada de Bob Esponja se anunció el 5 de mayo de 2017.^[1] Vincent Waller confirmó que constaría de 26 episodios de media hora.^[2] La temporada 12 se estrenó con el episodio "Granjero Bob" el 11 de noviembre de 2018, y hasta ahora se emitirán más episodios.

Esta temporada fue lanzada en DVD el 12 de enero de 2021 (aunque el episodio "Cangrejo en Cuarentena" no está en el DVD, debido a que la trama es involuntariamente similar a la pandemia de COVID-19).

Producción

El 21 de junio de 2017, Lori Alan confirmó en Instagram que la grabación de voz para la temporada 12 había comenzado, y compartió una foto que muestra tres palabras de una temporada de 12 episodios guión sin título.^[3]

El 18 de agosto de 2017, Vincent Waller confirmó en Twitter que el primer guión de la temporada 12 se terminó, y compartió una foto de la secuencia de comandos, revelando un escritor del episodio, Kaz. El título se sustituye con Xs.^[4] Más tarde resultó ser "La Vieja Carnada de Plankton."
